Economic calendar: All eyes on ECB!

• European indices open little changed

• ECB decision due at 1:15 pm BST, US Q3 GDP at 1:30 pm BST

• Amazon and Apple to report earnings after market close

The main event of the day is without a doubt rate decision from the European Central Bank. Money markets as well as economists polled by Bloomberg point to another 75 basis point rate hike. However, as this looks to be a done deal, traders will look for hints on what comes next after the Bank of Canada sent a dovish message yesterday, saying that the end of tightening may be coming. Apart from the ECB decision, investors will also be offered a Q3 GDP report from the United States that is expected to show the US economy expanding after a contraction in Q2 2022. When it comes to earnings, reports from two remaining US mega-techs - Amazon and Apple - will be released after the close of the Wall Street session. Earnings from Microsoft, Alphabet and Meta, released earlier this week, disappointed and triggered significant share price drops as well as put a strain on the whole tech sector.
