Economic calendar: Avalanche of survey data

  • European futures seesaw ahead of cash session open

  • US ISM manufacturing seen improving in September, avalanche of PMI releases

  • US stimulus talks in focus

European futures are seesawing ahead of the cash session open. There is a lot of data scheduled for release today but most of the PMI releases will be revisions to September data. US ISM manufacturing will be on watch and it is expected to show small improvement compared to August. US jobless claims will also be on watch. Apart from that, sentiment is likely to be driven by US politics and talks over the next stimulus bill. Still no agreement has been reached between Democrats and Republicans but two sides are said to be getting closer to it. Vote in the House has been postponed until today but may be delayed further if negotiators remain divided.

8:15 am BST - Spain, manufacturing PMI for September. Expected: 50.5. Previous: 49.9

8:45 am BST - Italy, manufacturing PMI for September. Expected: 53.5. Previous: 53.1

8:50 am BST - France, manufacturing PMI for September (revision). First release: 50.9

8:55 am BST - Germany, manufacturing PMI for September (revision). First release: 56.6

9:00 am BST - Euro area, manufacturing PMI for September (revision). First release: 53.7

9:30 am BST - UK, manufacturing PMI for September (revision). First release: 54.3

1:30 pm BST - US, core PCE inflation for August. Expected: 1.4% YoY. Previous: 1.3% YoY

1:30 pm BST - US, jobless claims. Expected: 850k. Previous: 870k

2:45 pm BST - US, manufacturing PMI for September (revision). First release: 53.5

3:00 pm BST - US, ISM manufacturing for September. Expected: 56.3. Previous: 56.0
