Economic calendar: EC summit, central bankers and earnings

  • European indices seen opening lower

  • European Council meeting on Brexit begins today

  • US jobless claims seen below lower than a week ago

European stock futures are pointing to a lower opening of the cash session today as Covid-19 numbers are spiking across the Old Continent and the prospect of a US stimulus deal is getting more distant. DAX is seen opening around 1% below yesterday's close. European Council meeting begins today but as the United Kingdom already announced it will not walk away from Brexit talks immediately after the deadline passes, it may not have as much impact. However, if UK changes its stance and decides to abandon talks, huge moves on the GBP market may be triggered.
