Economic calendar: US Q4 GDP data in the spotlight!

  • European stock market indices set for higher opening

  • US Q4 GDP report due at 1:30 pmGMT

Futures markets point to a higher opening of the European cash trading session. Economic calendar for the European morning trade is empty with no major data releases scheduled. However, things get more interesting in the early afternoon with a number of US reports scheduled for release at 1:30 pm GMT. A flash GDP report for Q4 2022 will draw the most attention and is expected to show a slowdown in annualized growth rate to 2.6%. Energy traders will focus on the EIA report on 3:30 pm GMT as it may trigger some more volatility on the natural gas market. Last but not the least, a number of US companies are set to report earnings today with Intel, Visa and Mastercard being the highlights.

1:30 pm GMT - US, GDP report for Q4 2022.

  • GDP growth (annualized). Expected: 2.6%. Previous: 3.2%

  • Core PCE. Expected: 4.0% QoQ. Previous: 4.7% QoQ

1:30 pm GMT - US, durable goods orders for December.

  • Headline. Expected: -0.2% MoM. Previous: +0.1% MoM

  • Ex-transport. Expected: +2.5% MoM. Previous: -2.1% MoM

1:30 pm GMT - US, jobless claims. Expected: 205k. Previous: 190k

3:00 pm GMT - US, new home sales for December. Expected: 615k. Previous: 640k

3:30 pm GMT - EIA report on US natural gas storage. Expected: -79 bcf. Previous: -82 bcf
