Futures markets point to a lower opening of the European cash session today. Moods deteriorated by the end of Asian session as Russian state media reported Ukraine started mortar shelling of separatists' positions in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. Ukraine denied the content of the reports and news of shelling were not confirmed by any Western media yet. Some say that it is a Russian provocation aimed at justifying military action in Ukraine. In any case, tensions remain high and are expected to remain so in at least the next few days.
Economic calendar for today is rather light. Investors will be offered a rate announcement from CBRT but no change in level of rates is expected. CBRT seems to have ended its easing cycle and volatility on TRY market eased. US jobless claims data, housing market data of Philly Fed index are not expected to trigger any major moves. Reports from Palantir Technologies and Walmart are top earnings releases to watch today.
